With honor to our Lord, who alone builds His church, we would like to share with you the beginnings of our church plant. The Master’s Church of Bucks County started with just three families who were seeking to find a local church where God’s people could grow deeper in their faith through the expositional teaching of Scripture and with a definitive Statement of Faith that was biblically sound. (See What We Teach.) At the time, we were traveling a significant distance to a Church associated with Grace Advance in central New Jersey. While the teaching was excellent, because of the distance, it was difficult to develop deeper relationships and become more involved in ministry.
In early 2017, we began to pray for the Lord’s will concerning the possibility of planting a local church in beautiful Bucks County, PA. Through a message preached by Dr. John MacArthur of Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, CA, we learned about an initiative of this church called Grace Advance. They offer training and support in helping plant biblically sound churches with an emphasis on expository teaching, as well as recruit pastors who have been trained at the Master’s Seminary.
As we prayed for the Lord's wisdom, in January 2018 we were in agreement about moving forward to submit an application for their assistance in developing a church plant in Bucks County. After numerous telephone conversations, meetings and a visit by the Director of Grace Advance, our application was approved in June, 2018. We are now officially, The Master’s Church - a simple statement of truth affirming that this is Christ’s church.
As Grace Advance has stated on their website, “There is an exploding interest on the part of true Christians committed to Scripture to develop churches that are biblically sound.” As we seek to do this, we are encouraged by the way the Lord provided for Israel in Jeremiah 3:15, "Then I will give you shepherds after My own heart, who will feed you on knowledge and understanding"
As we continued to take steps of obedience, we began meeting regularly on Sunday mornings for Sunday School and Worship in The Loft, located on the property of one of our families. We often had qualified men as guest speakers and when we did not, we used technology to bring us in-depth sermons from the pastors at Grace Community Church in Sun Valley California. A member of our core team spent two weeks in California that summer to attend the Grace Advance Academy, which provides intensive training on church planting. The wonderful team at Grace Advance also provided us with elders for counsel and support as we waited for the Lord to reveal to us His provision of a Godly man to shepherd us in the days ahead. (1 Tim. 3:1-7)
In October, 2018 Grace Advance sent to us a Master’s Seminary trained pastor, Dr. Scott Basolo, for an exploratory visit. We spent several days getting to know one another and hours in conversation exploring our shared beliefs, and hopes of growing a Biblically sound church. We saw quickly that Scott had a shepherd’s heart and his seminary training had an emphasis in expository preaching. It was a most encouraging visit, and we quickly came to love this man as a brother in Christ. Over the next two months, we talked by phone regularly, sought counsel with our elders in California and prayed diligently. The Lord continued to lead us in this important decision and in December, 2018, just a few days before Christmas, we invited Scott to be the pastor of The Master’s Church. He and his wife have accepted, and he will begin to officially serve our church in March. All praise to Him!
God continued to answer pray. The Loft, our much loved first meeting place, was growing small, and in January, 2019 we were able to secure a rental agreement with the Sr. Center of Northampton, and on January 27, 2019 we had our first official service in that beautiful facility. Pastor Scott flew in to preach and he and his wife, spent time with our church family. Needless to say it was a day of celebration in the Lord for all He has done to build His church.
While our beginnings are humble, we continue to be encouraged by a Scripture given by a sweet sister in Christ. “For who has despised the day of small things?” Zechariah 4:10.
On a visit to Grace Community Church this past summer, even Pastor John encouraged a member of our team, "You have to start somewhere!"
We are growing a strong foundation and are all wearing many hats, but are so joyful in our worship, prayer and in the loving community with which the Lord has surrounded us. He clearly has the reigns and we are thankful to be used of Him. "We have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves." 2 Cor 4:7
We welcome you to join us as He reveals to us His faithfulness and power to save and sanctify those that are His, and teaches us from the depth of His Word so that we might know Him and glorify Him.
